Lipases catalyze hydrolysis of fat into fatty acids, mono and diacylglycerol and glycerol. Lipases are synthesized by microorganisms, plants and animals but microbial lipases find promising applications in biotechnological industries. Among the microbial lipases, fungal lipases exhibit stability under adverse conditions. Therefore, they are preferred over bacterial lipases. It is greatly desirable that industrial fermentation process must be made more and more economic. It depends upon the effectiveness of the productive strain used in the fermentation process. Thus, if a person is interested in beginning a new fermentation industry must obtain a competent strain (hyperproducer). Generally, newly isolated strains obtained by screening strategies are not as efficient as could be used for production of metabolite in the industries. Thus, such strains require improvement, so far as the quantity of a primarily preferred compound is concerned. This is achieved by producing the mutant strain (hyperproducer of enzyme in question) by various techniques of strain improvement. Therefore, the present review highlights different techniques of strain improvement that can be used for producing hyperproducer mutagenic strain.
