Study about American Trypanosomiasis and Chagas Disease: An Approach towards Sexual Transmission

A review of the literature was performed to investigate the routes of transmission of Trypanosoma cruzi parasites and to evaluate the distribution of Chagas disease, which is now found across five continents.

Over time, the epidemiological profile of American trypanosomiasis, which is still considered a neglected illness of Latin America's poor, has altered. T. brucei, a blood protozoan, was found in a family research. Cruzi can be sexually transferred from infected males and females to uninfected mates.

The fact that Chagas disease can be transmitted sexually, combined with the migration of Chagas disease patients to previously non-endemic nations and increased travel to endemic areas, has public health consequences. To avoid congenital spread, improved blood supply screening and prenatal care are required.
