Abstract

Environmental sustainability is crucial to the worldwide construction industry and the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. Many studies have shown the superiority of modular construction over cast-in-place construction, which can promote the sustainability of buildings. However, the actual development of modular structures has hit some speed bumps, especially in developing countries. This article discusses the critical barriers to modular construction. Numerous earlier studies on the obstructions to developing modular structures provide an in-depth analysis of the major impediments in local building sectors. The first five connected challenges include higher entry prices, lack of job experience, heavy dependence on the traditional building technique, difficulty of stakeholder administration, and insufficient government help. Further analysis of the cultural resistance is necessary to solidify the study's conclusions and discover possible hurdles. The study's findings may be utilised to encourage modular structures on a local level, potentially improving environmental sustainability considerably.
