Abstract

Radiological dose distribution of 83mKr, 85mKr, 85Kr, and 88Kr on ground and immersion considering a hypothetical accident of TRIGA research reactor at AERE, Savar, Bangladesh has been evaluated in this work. Site specific data related to dose measurement such as average wind velocity, wind frequency, and temperature have been calculated. The activity in the core of the reactor and release rate for 83mKr, 85mKr, 85Kr, 88Kr as well as Gaussian diffusion factor have also been estimated. Soon after the accident, the total dose was found to be maximum in all the directions. The maximum dose due to 83mKr, 85mKr, 85Kr, 88Kr and the total (83mKr+85mKr+85Kr+ 88Kr) were found within the range 1.681E-6 – 7.209E-6 µSv/hr, 0.021 - 0.09 µSv/hr, 9.493E-7 – 3.823E-6 µSv/hr, 0.6 – 2.571 µSv/hr, and 0.621 – 2.661 µSv/hr, respectively for all the dominant directions. Major dose contribution has been observed for 83mKr (76.73%) due to immersion. The dominant contribution of dose due to 85mKr has been observed both from immersion (58.43%) and from ground deposition (41.47%). Also observed that contribution of 85Kr from immersion is higher (73.27%) and contribution of 88Kr in immersion is higher (68.20%). Final result says that the immersion is the dominant contributor (67.86%) for krypton. The extracted result can be used to establish the radiological protective measure, which is necessitate to make sure the safety of the people living near the reactor area.
