Abstract

The behavior of an olive stones based activated carbon (CAGOCom) as an adsorbent for pure methane was been investigated during cyclic operation of 36 adsorption- desorption cycles at room temperature (298 K) under low pressure of about 10 bars. Repeatability of charge- discharge process as important for vehicular uses has been evaluated by the determination of the desorption yield, the adsorption efficiency and the residual cumulated amounts. For all the cycles, an average adsorbed amount of about 50 mg/g was conserved with high adsorption efficiency about 80% and a moderate desorption amount of about 40 mg/g to explain the huge increase of residual cumulated methane amount during the cyclic operation. All these results encouraged grain based activated carbons use as good candidate for gas storage to vehicular applications.
