Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the antioxidant activity of ethanolic, methanolic and aqueous extracts of leaves, flowers and fruits of Crataegus monogyna Jacq., grows spontaneously in the mount of Tessala (West- Algeria) using the test of diphenyl-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH). The yield of crude extract (lyophilisate) differs depending on the organs and the type of extract (P < 0.05). The maximum yield characterizes aqueous extract of leaves (3.36 ± 0.03 g/15 g), followed by ethanolic extract of fruits (1.89 ± 0.09 g/15 g) and methanolic extract of leaves (0.70 ± 0.02 g/15 g). The methanolic extracts of leaves, flowers and fruits have very high antioxidant activity than the other extracts with an inhibitory concentration (IC50 = 96.89 ± 19.40 µg/ml) obtained with flowers, followed by the ethanolic extracts (IC50 = 110.01± 0.76 µg/ml) with leaves. Aqueous extracts presented, a low antioxidant activity, particularly with flowers (IC50= 996.62 ± 11. 35 µg/ml).
