Abstract

The rich field of two dimensional nanostructures has led to promising applications in numerous research areas in the recent decades. Theoretical as well as experimental exploration and analysis of their physical, chemical, thermal and electronic properties has proved to be of immense importance and has resulted in many potential uses in sensors, batteries, photodetectors and various other optoelectronic devices. Exploiting thermodynamic properties has applications in fields related to energy and environment. The present study deals with the thermodynamic properties of a circularly confined GaAs/AlGaAs quantum disk with an on-centre hydrogenic impurity. The dependence of such properties on azimuthal distortion represented by a non-central potential is investigated. The influence of external parameters, viz., temperature and external magnetic field, along with the effect of confinement radius, on the thermodynamic properties, is also explored. The magnitude of distortion is found to have a profound effect on such properties of the system, the knowledge of which is crucial to understand the behaviour of practical quantum systems. The results of this study are expected to provide a guide for tuning the thermal properties of a quantum disk and hence aid the development of practical nanodevices.
